Sett & Lucas has a proprietary fund dedicated to global macro hedging. The investment strategy is based on the interpretation and prediction of large-scale events related to national economies, history, and international relations.
The S&L strategy typically employs forecasts and analysis of interest rate trends, international trade and payments, geopolitical changes and risk assessment, International monetary policies and other broad systemic factors.
The discretionary macro team executes their strategies by deploying directional positions at the asset class level to express a positive or negative top-down view on a market. The managed futures team applies priced-based trend-following algorithms to the trading of futures contracts to create value arbitrages.
The systematic macro team follows a hybrid strategy that combines the fundamental analysis of the discretionary macro team with the model-driven process approach of the managed futures team.
The macro hedge research team also tracks global economic and monetary policy, including countries short term interest rates relative to counter currency. Macro hedge also focuses on US Treasury instruments, European debt instruments, as well as other developed and emerging nation government debt.
The Sett & Lucas team also shares its independent macro hedge research intelligence with other customers in the marketplace.
Another key area of focus for the Sett & Lucas proprietary fund management division (FMD) is investing and creating value through the IPO markets.
The IPO markets team uses its pre-IPO fundamental analysis and global IPO market analytics to select securities for the portfolio. The team’s outlook is that the economic fundamentals are improving in major developed economies and there is an exponential growth outlook in emerging markets.
Equity index performance and valuations are trending upward, with several major indices reaching all-time highs.
At the same time, volatility is low, underpinning positive IPO sentiment. The S&L team closely tracks global IPO markets with a special focus in BRICS markets, frontier markets and specific countries in Latin America (Brazil), South Asia (India) and APAC (Philippines, Japan, China and Singapore).
The proprietary fund either purchases IPOs at the time of their initial offering or thereafter in post-IPO trading. The IPO markets team shares its independent research intelligence with select customers on request.
